The Game

No consumer likes buying that newest hottest laptop and bringing it home, only to find that it is defective. Leading companies must develop effective methods to control defects. Due to the ease and small error margin of using robots, it is only practical to develop robotic solutions to product quality control. Incorprated into this year's BEST competition, students have a unique and practical issue to solve.

This year's game is titled "Total Recall." Simulating a distributer, robots and human operators interact with "products" to take out the defects that have made it through the final checks of the production line. With gadgets represented as golf balls and gizmos represented as easter eggs, the human and robot must work together to sort and pack gadgets and gizmos as they can in three minutes.

The golf balls individually are worth 3 points each. They are first delivered to the human operator by the robot. The human operator must then sort the balls by color into the appropriate tubes.

The easter eggs are worth 10 points each due to the process being handled by only the robot. The first step is to place a cone on top of the cone rack. Gizmos may then be be placed inside the cone. For extra points the cone may then be sealed off.

The competition is on October 23rd 2010.
