What is OnShape?
Onshape is a free online cloud-based computer-aided design software, allowing individual designers to collaborate on a single design at the same time. Students will learn how to create basic 3D models and integrate designs together in assemblies with Onshape.
3D Modeling/Computer-Aided Design
Computer-aided design is a skill in high demand in today’s engineering industry. In our camp, students will learn the fundamentals of computer-aided design in Onshape including but not limited sketching, extrusions, cuts, revolves, mating/constraints, and dimensioning. Throughout the week, students will be introduced to new computer-aided design concepts with creative activities reinforcing those concepts. Ideas and concepts relating to prototyping, manufacturing, and 3D printing will be discussed alongside the skills that are taught. Students will be given opportunities to collaborate and work on team-orientated activities together. At the end of the week, students will be able to design and 3D print their own creation which will be mailed to them shortly after the camp. This experience will allow kids to apply their creative mindset, allowing for an overall enjoyable experience!
FIRST Lego League (FLL)
Students will learn how to program with block code using LEGO Mindstorms EV3 coding. They will be able to program robots to perform tasks and utilize sensors, motors and attachments. They will also learn the different types of programming blocks, including motors, sensors, loops, custom MyBlocks, and other functions. Learning to program using Lego Mindstorms can develop programming skills that can help students with future advanced coding. The students will utilize their programming skills to make the robot move and perform tasks assigned to them in a precise manner.
Lego Mindstorm EV3- (100-150)
Students will work in teams to build powerful robots using Lego Mindstorms in order to complete our “Jungle” challenge game. They will learn to work with motors, sensors, mechanisms and many other parts to achieve their goal.
The Lego Mindstorms EV3 robot serves as a great gateway for beginners into robotics. The Lego Mindstorms software uses block coding to program the robot's motors and sensors to drive, lift objects, and even respond to changing environments. Students in the summer camp will use the EV3 Intelligent Brick and the variety of Mindstorms sensors to manipulate the robot's function based on proximity, color, and touch requirements to complete the Jungle game.
