Who is Kenneth Kung?

Kenneth is a senior at Northview High School. He joined the team in his sophomore year as a member of the Design sub-team but switched to electrical the next year. Kenneth now leads the Electrical sub-team and is also a pit crew member — fixing electrical issues that arise during matches. In his free time, he enjoys playing badminton, video games, and listening to music.
What Does Electrical Do?

The Electrical sub-team is responsible for powering and maintaining connectivity to the robot. Members ensure the robot functions as programmed during competition. During bootcamp, students spend time learning about the electrical system and components. In game season, they apply these skills through good electrical practice in order to create a robust robot.
Q&A
Q1: What got you interested in joining robotics?
“I have been in the robotics field since elementary school, where I learned how to build Legos and put things together. That helped me get into the STEM. And then I saw our team through the club fair and signed up because I was interested.”
Q2: How would you describe your leadership role to someone not in robotics?
“My job on this team is to make sure the robot functions through designing, wiring, and installing the electrical system. I teach my sub-team wiring and the practice of good wiring.”
Q3: What prior electrical experience did you have before becoming leadership?
“I had no prior experience in electrical at all. I learned all of it through the two years I have been on the team from learning in bootcamp and practicing in build season.”
Q4: What personal goals do you want to achieve this season?

“As lead this season, I hope our robot will maintain the high standard set by our predecessors and maintain continuous improvement. I want to be careful, diligent, and accurate so no issues with the robot’s wiring that may interfere with competition performance.”
Q5: What sub-team goals do you want to achieve this season?
“I want to involve more people. There are members working on our robot because I helped them learn and understand what they need to do. I hope more people become interested in electrical and participate within our team more, where they volunteer and lead.”
Q6: What is something you learned in bootcamp that you plan to apply during game season?
“I learned that it was better to keep projects simple rather than to overcomplicate. Sticking with a solid foundation makes robotics more robust. From my members, I figured out that the effort you put is more important than the outcome because it shows hard work.”
Kenneth’s growth from a beginner with no electrical experience to Electrical Lead shows his dedication and willingness to learn. His focus on quality, teamwork, and teaching others plays a key role in robot reliability and success. Through his leadership, Kenneth helps ensure that the Electrical sub-team remains a strong and dependable part of the team.
