On March 16-17, the team traveled to Discovery High School and competed at the PCH District Gwinnett Competition. At first, we had some mechanical issues with the robot’s elevator. Unfortunately, that caused us to drop down to 24th in the team rankings on Saturday. We repaired the problem and with continued hard work, finished the qualifying rounds ranked 4th out of 34 teams. We became the captain of Alliance 3 during alliance selection. We chose FRC 5109 (Gladiator Robotics) as our first alliance partner and FRC 8865 (Dacula Droids) as our second. During the playoffs we made it to the finals but even with our best efforts, we lost to Alliance 1. We are grateful to our alliance partners who worked as tirelessly as we did!
Additionally, we received the District Engineering Inspiration Award. The judges were impressed by our team’s efforts to recruit students with our commitment to science and technology education within our team, school, and community. We were thrilled to win this award. Two teams from Peachtree District will go to the World Championships to interview for this award. What an honor!
Our club Vice President Emerson Segraves was selected as a Dean's List Semi-Finalist for her leadership and dedication to our team and the FIRST community. Eric Kung, our safety captain, was awarded the Safety All-Star. His commitment to safe practices and promoting safety awareness among teams stood out to the judges.
All in all, it was a great competition. Now we look forward to the Peachtree District Championship in Macon in April!
