Who is Vivian Tran?
Vivian Tran is a junior at Northview High School. She joined Techno Titans in her freshman year and is currently our Business Lead. Outside of robotics, she is in the literary magazine as Creative Director and a mock trial court artist. In her free time, she enjoys listening to music and hanging out with friends.
What does Business do?

Business contains everything outside of the robot. Members focus on building the team rather than the robot. Business manages outreach events, our FIRSTLikeAGirl Ambassador duties, as well as design merchandise for the team. During competitions, members are in charge of social media (like Instagram and YouTube) -- they take pictures and videos for posts. Our social media helps outsiders, members, and sponsors stay updated on our team.
Q&A
Q1: What got you interested in joining robotics?
“My brother was very involved in the team when he was a member and convinced me to join the business sub-team in my freshman year. At first, I was skeptical, but I found robotics fun and stayed on the team.”
Q2: How would you describe your leadership role to someone not in robotics?
“As leadership, I help manage the finances and outreach. I assign roles and responsibilities to members and teach our team history.”
Q3: What prior business experience did you have before becoming a part of leadership?
“Before I joined the team, I always drew and painted for fun which helps in the designing aspect of business. And I used to make edits, which now helps in making recap videos on our YouTube channel. Before becoming leadership, I’d say I was very involved in the team. I did pit rep and showed I was dedicated to the team by going to a lot of outreach events.”

Q4: What are personal goals you want to achieve this season?
“I would like to strengthen my presentation skills, photography, and make more friends within and outside our team.”
Q5: What are some sub-team goals you want to achieve this season?
“I want to win the Impact Award before I graduate. Our team is highly committed to inspiring young generations to become leaders in the science and technology fields, and I believe our team deserves to win this award. Additionally, I want our recap videos to get better each time, with members continuously complementing our work."
Q6: What is the most significant obstacle you face while doing work for business?
“I definitely feel excluded from the rest of the team a lot because I more work on the team and not on the robot; so, I just smile and nod when people talk specific details about the robot to me. Sometimes at competition, getting media for the team is hard, especially on the field because of the angle you sit at. Also, making the Impact Award video can be stressful because the whole process is a lot of work. When writing the video script, I continually ask if we are presenting our message clearly. And I worry if our videos and pictures show the true impact what we do. Otherwise, being in business is great.”
